Lions Leader Dogs inspired Lion James Boswell, guest speaker for the Shippensburg Lions Club meeting of May 11, to join the York Downtown Lions Club in April 1977. One year prior to that, Lion Jim took his first walk with a Leader Dog. The following month he brought his first Leader Dog Boomer, a golden retriever to York County, Pennsylvania. In the late 1970's, he began working with his second Leader Dog, a black lab named Bruno. In August 1994 he began working with his third Leader Dog, a yellow lab named Joe, and in January 2000 he trained with and began working with a fourth Leader Dog named Colan. Lion Jim gave his talk about the value of Leader Dogs and the safety of blind pedestrians. Lion Jim is the Leader Dog Chairperson of District 14C. A certificate of appreciation and a check were awarded to Lion Jim and Colan by Lion Jerry Judy, President of the Shippensburg Lions Club. ________________________________________________________________________
